Ring in the New Year with Fort Myers Art Walk and Saturday Art Fair Jan. 6 & 7

Art lovers can start the New Year with Fort Myers Art Walk and the Saturday Art Fair on Jan. 6 and 7.

The next monthly Art Walk will take place on Friday, Jan. 6, with local art galleries and art stops featuring new exhibits and shows. This regular cultural event draws between 1,500 and 2,500 people each month to the downtown Fort Myers River District.

Then on Saturday, Jan. 7, the organizers of Art Walk present the seasonal Saturday Art Fair. This juried art event showcases individual artists at tables along the sidewalks of First Street. The Saturday Art Fair runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to attend. Forty artists and art vendors are scheduled to be at January’s Saturday Art Fair.

The monthly Art Walk runs from 6 to 10 p.m. on the first Friday of every month. The January Art Walk will include a dozen art galleries and art stops and will feature new art shows, live music, and the traditional after party.

Some art highlights of the Friday, Jan. 6th Art Walk:

- Art of the Olympians: Showing an exhibition, Legends of ’68, featuring artwork from four dynamic USA Olympians from the 1968 Olympic Games (Rink Babka, Bob Beamon, Peggy Fleming, and Al Oerter), and a collection of works by Olympic artist Steve Allen.
- Art League of Fort Myers: Opening reception for Imagination Gone Wild exhibit.
- Arts for ACT Gallery: Opening reception for a group show featuring artists David Acevedo, Todd Babb, David Belling, JoAnne Bedient, Stephen Gray-Blancett, Christina Jarmolinski, Leo Johnson, Mel Meo, George Mitchell, and Paul Rodino. Alicia Schmidt will be in the office gallery exhibiting her “Shell Series” and Pop artist Jef Hernandez will exhibit in the middle gallery room.
- daas Gallery: Opening reception for Untamed: The Art of Oliver Dominguez.
- Gallery Showcase and Information Center at IberiaBank (Bayview Court at First Street). Art Walk T-shirts are available at this location as well as buttons, maps and brochures.
- HOWL Gallery: Opening of show featuring new and existing paintings by resident painter and tattoo artist, Matt Lackey.
- In One Instant: One year anniversary and show opening of Street Walking: The works of Jim Lustenader.
- Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center: Opening for Salon d’ Collage, a dynamic exhibition featuring the collaborative works of seven SW Florida artists.
- Space 39 Gallery: Group art show.

A free shuttle service courtesy of Select Transportation Inc., with stops planned near the art venues, and parking at the Harborside Event Center will be available for Art Walk patrons. Shuttle stops include The Oasis Condominiums, Art of the Olympians, and the Patio de Leon entrance at First Street.

Art Walk and Tree Lighting December 2nd 2011

Fort Myers Art Walk offers great gift and holiday shopping options

December’s Fort Myers Art Walk and the Saturday Art Fair will offer some great holiday shopping options for local residents and tourists alike.

The first weekend of December will see new art exhibits, the official Christmas tree lighting, and a growing art fair in downtown Fort Myers.

The next monthly Art Walk will take place on Friday, Dec. 2, with local art galleries and art stops featuring new exhibits and shows. This regular cultural event draws between 1,500 and 2,500 people each month to the downtown River District.

Then on Saturday, Dec. 3, the organizers of Art Walk present the seasonal Saturday Art Fair. A new twist this year is the art fair is a juried event, showcasing individual artists at tables along the sidewalks of First Street. The Saturday Art Fair runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to attend. Thirty-nine artists and art vendors are scheduled to be at December’s Saturday Art Fair.

The monthly Art Walk runs from 6 to 10 p.m. on the first Fridays of every month. The December Art Walk will include a dozen art galleries and art stops and will feature new art shows, live music, and the traditional after party.

An added bonus on Friday, Dec. 2 will be the annual Holiday Stroll and Christmas tree lighting starting at 7 p.m. Mayor Randy Henderson (in a horse-drawn carriage) will lead the Holiday Stroll procession along First Street starting at Monroe Street. As the stroll heads east, the lights along First Street will be illuminated for the season. The carriage will head to Hendry Street, turn north and stop just north of Bay Street. The mayor will light the official downtown Christmas tree in the grassy median of Hendry Street. He will then travel to the Art of the Olympians at the river’s edge where fake snow will fall on strollers. The procession will turn around and head south on Hendry Street back to First. Turning east on First, the Mayor’s carriage will proceed to the Goodwill Festival of Trees at the Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center. First and Hendry streets will be closed temporarily during the stroll and tree lighting.

- Art of the Olympians: Showing an exhibition, Legends of ’68, featuring artwork from four dynamic USA Olympians from the 1968 Olympic Games (Rink Babka, Bob Beamon, Peggy Fleming, and Al Oerter), and a collection of works by Olympic Artist Steve Allen. - Coloring The World: Holiday art sale to include medal sculptures by Mac Worthington, paintings by Stephen Gray Blancett, jewelry by Raven, and pottery by Sandy Pond.

- daas Gallery: Opening reception for Earth: A Cry for Deliverance, a juried group exhibition.

October marks three-year anniversary for Downtown Fort Myers Art Walk

Art Walk has withstood the test of time and the economy. In October, the monthly art event will mark its third successful year as part of the revitalization of downtown Fort Myers.The next monthly Art Walk will take place on Friday, Oct. 7, with local art galleries and art stops featuring new exhibits and shows. This regular cultural event draws between 1,500 and 2,500 people each month to the downtown River District.Then on Saturday, Oct. 8, the organizers of Art Walk will bring back its seasonal Saturday Art Fair. A new twist this year is the art fair is now a juried event and will showcase individual artists at tables along the sidewalks of First Street. The Saturday Art Fair will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to attend.The monthly Art Walk runs from 6 to 10 p.m. on the first Fridays of every month. The October Art Walk will include more than a dozen art galleries and art stops and will feature new art shows, live music, and the traditional after party.On Thursday, Oct. 6, the Art League of Fort Myers will host a reception from 5 to 9 p.m. at Harborside Event Center to showcase the annual Cele-BRA-tion exhibit.

Some highlights of the Friday, Oct. 7 Art Walk:

- Art of the Olympians: An Exhibition of 21 International Olympian Artists in the Olympian Art Gallery and in the Olympic Sport Museum the Table Tennis Showcase is still showing with the opportunity to play against the robot.

Saturday Art Fair - Call to Artists

A Call to Artists for: Art Walks Fort Myers – Saturday Art Fair

Art Walk Fort Myers is looking for vibrant, accomplished artists to set up in Downtown Fort Myers, Florida, to sell their works for Art Walk Fort Myers, Saturday Art Fair. The downtown gallery committees will jury this fair.

Artists must submit 3 to 5 images of the art they will be selling. Art will line the sidewalks on First, Dean, and Lee Streets in downtown, Fort Myers and art lovers will be looking for affordable fine art, jewelry, ceramics, designer wear and unique artsy gifts of all kinds. Art Vendors will have their choice of placement on a first come basis for the fifty plus spots on the sidewalks. The event is free to the public and be well publicized.

The Saturday Fort Myers Art Fair is held the Saturday after the first Friday Art Walk, 11am -4pm, each month from October 2011 to April 2012.
