May 2012 Art Walk

Fort Myers Art Walk features new art exhibits Friday, May 4

 The First Friday of every month welcomes Fort Myers Art Walk. The River District art galleries have lined up some exciting new exhibits for the May Art Walk.

The next downtown Fort Myers Art Walk will take place on Friday, May 4, with local art galleries and art stops featuring new exhibits and group shows. This regular cultural event draws between 1,500 and 2,500 people each month to the downtown Fort Myers River District.

The monthly Art Walk runs from 6 to 10 p.m. on the first Fridays of every month. The May Art Walk will include numerous art galleries and art stops and will feature new art shows, live music, and the traditional after party. The public can meet the artists during the show openings.

Some art highlights of the Friday, May 4 Art Walk:

- Art of the Olympians: Exhibit featuring the final projects from the Digital Lee students. This showcase will exhibit the most exemplary work from each of Lee County’s 13 high schools is submitted into one of three divisions: web design, graphic design, and multimedia design.

- Art League of Fort Myers: Opening reception for Busting Out All Over show that celebrates the explosion of Southwest Florida’s local traditions, both natural and anthropological.

- Arts for ACT Gallery: Opening reception for Art Poems, a collaboration of 12 visual artists and 12 poets in the main gallery, plus local artist Linda Benson and photographer Joe Sabella.

- daas Gallery: Opening reception for Argentinean master Marcelo Holzinger, who debuts in Southwest Florida with his newest collection entitled Beauty|Passion|Dreams.

- Gallery Showcase and Information Center at IberiaBank (Bayview Court at First Street). Art Walk T-shirts are available at this location as well as buttons, maps, and brochures.

- HOWL Gallery: Opening of SWFL Lives! 4th Annual Group Show, which showcases some of the best artists living in Southwest Florida.

- In One Instant: Starting in May, the gallery will begin showcasing 12 different photographers in its main gallery space.

- Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center: Opening for exhibit featuring the art of retiring Fort Myers High School teacher Pam Schwantes and her students.

- Space 39 Gallery:  Group art show.

- The Oasis Luxury Towers: Mis amigos: A group show with artists Portilla, Malagon, Valadez, Perez, Fisher & Romero.

- UNIT A Contemporary Art Space:  The studio has published an open edition poster of the official Absolut bottle painted by Marcus Jansen for the new Absolut Blank campaign. It will be available during Art Walk.

Roughly 40 participants make Art Walk successful each month and they include the Alliance for the Arts, Art League of Fort Myers, Art of the Olympians, Arts for ACT Gallery and Boutique, Charme, Cigar Bar, Coloring The World Gallery, daas Gallery, Downtown House of Pizza, Enjewel, First United Methodist Church, Florida Repertory Theatre, Ford’s Garage, Fort Myers Community Redevelopment Agency, The Franklin Shops, French Connection Cafe, Hampton Inn & Suites, Happenings Magazine, Hideaway Sports Bar, Hotel Indigo, HOWL Gallery/Tattoo, IberiaBank, In One Instant Gallery of Photography, Legacy Harbour Hotel & Suites, Linen Cottage, Lush Bakery, Main Street Antiques, Market America Realty & Investments, Morgan House Restaurant, The Nest Home & Garden, The Oasis Luxury Condos,  River District Alliance,  Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, Space 39 Gallery, Spirits of Bacchus, Twisted Vine Bistro, UNIT A, United Café, Bar & Bistro, The Veranda Restaurant, What’s Up Dogs?, and the Young Artists Awards Program. ?

Final Saturday Art Fair of season April 7

The River District art galleries have lined up some exciting new exhibits for the April Fort Myers Art Walk.

The next monthly downtown Fort Myers Art Walk will take place on Friday, April 6, with local art galleries and art stops featuring new exhibits and shows. This regular cultural event draws between 1,500 and 2,500 people each month to the downtown Fort Myers River District.

Then on Saturday, April 7, the organizers of Art Walk present the final Saturday Art Fair of the season. This juried art event showcases individual local artists at tables along the sidewalks of First Street. The Saturday Art Fair runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to attend. More than 40 artists and art vendors are scheduled to be at April’s Saturday Art Fair.

Fort Myers Art Walk showcases new exhibits Friday, March 2

Saturday Art Fair returns March 3

The downtown art galleries have booked some exciting new exhibits for the March Fort Myers Art Walk.

The next monthly Fort Myers Art Walk will take place on Friday, March 2 with local art galleries and art stops featuring new exhibits and shows. This regular cultural event draws between 1,500 and 2,500 people each month to the downtown Fort Myers River District.

Then on Saturday, March 3, the organizers of Art Walk present the seasonal Saturday Art Fair. This juried art event showcases individual local artists at tables along the sidewalks of First Street. The Saturday Art Fair runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to attend. Forty-three artists and art vendors are scheduled to be at March’s Saturday Art Fair.

The monthly Art Walk runs from 6 to 10 p.m. on the first Fridays of every month. The March Art Walk will include numerous art galleries and art stops and will feature new art shows, live music and the traditional after party.

Earlier in the day, the City of Fort Myers will dedicate its new public art, Fire Dance, in Centennial Park. Sculptor David Black will be on hand for the dedication at 4 p.m.

The downtown’s newest art space joins Art Walk in March, too. Artist Marcus Jansen will hold a grand opening that night for UNIT A at 1922 Evans Ave. (between Martin Luther King and Thompson).

Some art highlights of the Friday, March 2 Art Walk:

- Art of the Olympians: Opening new exhibit Chiseled: The Core of Man featuring Italian Olympian artist Emanuela Pierantozzi.

- Art League of Fort Myers: Opening reception for The World Around Us exhibit. Young Artists Awards vocalists Halie Boling, Sam Bostic and Sarah Daigle will be performing from 7-9 p.m.

- Arts for ACT Gallery: Opening reception for new exhibit featuring artists Mary-Louise Biasotti Hooper, Michelle Rothaker and Lisa Freidus

- Coloring the World: The gallery featuring the art of Stephen Gray Blancett

- daas Gallery: Opening reception for Paintings & Prints: The Art of Daniel Venditti

The downtown Fort Myers art galleries have lined up exciting new exhibits for the February Fort Myers Art Walk.

The next monthly Fort Myers Art Walk will take place on Friday, Feb. 3 with local art galleries and art stops featuring new exhibits and shows. This regular cultural event draws between 1,500 and 2,500 people each month to the downtown Fort Myers River District.

The Saturday Art Fair, held the day after Art Walk each month, was denied a permit by the City of Ft Myers this month.  For media coverage on this story click here.
